Boulder County Pioneer articles.

This folder contains biographical anecdotes written by Morse H. Coffin and published over five consecutive weeks, in the Boulder County Miner newspaper from 25 December 1913 until 22 January 1914. In the first article, entitled "A Pioneer Christmas - Christmas Day Eighteen Fifty-Nine," the newspaper wrote, "Mr. H. M. Coffin, whose recent death was mourned by all Boulder county, prepared the Christmas story and a series of reminiscences of early days in Colorado, to be published after his death." The remaining four articles were titled "Pioneer Days." These reminiscences include information on the building of the first homes and businesses in Boulder, the difficulties in procuring food and drink, and Indians. The articles were found on microfilm at the Archives, Norlin Library, University of Colorado at Boulder, printed, then photocopied onto archival paper.

Morse H. Coffin was born in Roxbury, N.Y., September 20, 1836. At the age of 21 he was began managing his father's farm in Illinois, but in 1859 he crossed the plains with two friends and arrived in Boulder on July 18th. He first whip-sawed lumber for Low, Goss & Pell, providing the lumber for the first frame house built in Boulder County (built by H.C. Norton).
